About

Welcome to my blog.

My initial post on Greece was now over one month ago and I’ve struggled to publish a follow up. This was partly due to my slackness but also because I didn’t not know what the objective was and who I should be writing for. Well, I’ve had a mini epiphany.

Rather than use this as some kind of professional pitch to help me find a job, I will use this as a way for me to keep my economics brain sharp while my job search continues. I’ve decided not to take it too seriously and the intention is to post frequently and in a light-hearted way. If this acts as a forum that attracts interest from friends and/or the general public then that will be a bonus.

While I do feel qualified to opine on these various issues, I do not assume to be correct and diverging opinions and comments are welcome. The content will not be aimed at the man on the street, but rather people with an interest in economics, financial markets and/or monetary policy. The content will not represent my professional opinion on any matter. If and when I do find another full time job, I might need to put my pen down or change the title of my first post from Eurozone doomed no matter what! to Eurozone doomed no matter what?. Either way, I will cross that bridge when it comes.

For those who do now know me, I am a 33 year old financial market punter with an MSc in Finance and seven years’ work experience in the field. I am originally from South Africa, but have lived in the Middle East, Brazil, Argentina and the UK. I have the cheek to call myself an expert on the US economy, monetary policy and Latin America. I am fluent in Portuguese and Spanish and have been known to speak excellent Afrikaans when moderately intoxicated.

Incidentally, I am currently looking for work so if you think this blog is brilliant and feel like offering me lots of money to do something (i.e. something related to economics, not smuggling narcotics for example), please do. I hope you enjoy the read and if you have got this far well done.
